conference. The observation should last 10-20 minutes.
             - Mentors may want to use the Observation Template to record notes. You may also want to review the Protocols for
            Ongoing Observation
(page 2 may be particularly helpful during the observation). (* Please remember to not record
opinions or judgments about the lesson, students, or RE.)
             - Within 2 days of the observation, Mentor and RE should use the Collaborative Log, Collaborative Conversations
             Log,
or other format to document the instructional conversation you have reviewing the observation.

* ____ Reciprocal Observation OR Exemplary Teacher Observation by Resident Educator (You will have the opportunity to
choose between these two forms of observation in March as well.)
____ - If you choose to do the Reciprocal Observation, the goal of this is to give the Mentor & RE an opportunity to
observe the same lesson being done by someone else giving the Mentor & RE an oportunity to have a deep and
difficult professional conversation about the art and science of teaching.
____ - If you choose the Exemplary Teacher Observation, "Teacher to teacher modeling has the greatest impact on
teacher improvement." (Douglas Reeves) Teacher to teacher modeling should occur as frequently as possible
throughout one's teaching career. Use this form to help decide which exemplary teacher to observe and what the RE
and Mentor could discuss following the observation.
